Reel Light Movie Night & Talkback Social
at Vancouver Convention Centre & The Old Spaghetti Factory
999 Canada Place
Vancouver, BC

You are warmly invited to join the Reel Light community on Saturday, January 28th.  We are viewing two films, PLACED: A REFLECTION ON HOME and PRIEST-DOCTOR:  SERVING THE SOUL – HEALING THE BODY, at the Missions Fest Vancouver Film Festival (Ballroom B) at the Vancouver Convention Centre followed by a post-show talkback social with Filmmakers Caryn Matheson and Erin Parks.

The screening is $3.00 (tickets can be purchased at the door) and is part of the Missions Fest Vancouver 2012 Film Festival (January 27 – 29) – you can read more information about the film festival and watch some of the trailers at http://www.missionsfestvancouver.ca/Film.cfm. There's also a preview article that appeared in the December issue of The Light Magazine which can be accessed online at http://www.lightmagazine.ca/index.php?page=public.viewarticle&nArticlesID=196.  And, you can “Like” the Missions Fest Vancouver Film Festival Facebook Page which also has various links and great information https://www.facebook.com/pages/Missions-Fest-Vancouver-Film-Festival/205896326151961?ref=ts

The work of a number of Reel Light associated filmmakers is featured throughout the weekend.

There are five (FREE) film festival hosted seminars / panels taking place (two on Friday and three on Saturday) as well as a few more being presented by others that will also of interest to the film / media community.  The seminar information can be found at the very bottom of this page http://missionsfestvancouver.ca/Film.cfm.

PLACED is a 16-minute drama and PRIEST-DOCTOR is a 45-minute documentary. (see additional descriptions below).  Immediately following the screening, there will be a brief Q&A.  The Reel Light community is then invited to travel to The Old Spaghetti Factory which is located at 53 Water Street (about an 8 block walk from the Convention Centre).   There is an 8:15pm reservation under “Reel Light” – we’ll be in the back area known as “section 14”.

Attendance at the Talkback Social is open to all Reel Light connected people as an opportunity to do a bit of a Q&A with Caryn and Erin as well as whichever other filmmakers / panelists from the film festival are at the dinner.  It's very low key - everyone is responsible to pay for whatever they order and the restaurant will prepare separate bills.  Further information about the restaurant can be viewed here http://www.osf.ca/locations/british_columbia and the menu can be viewed here http://www.osf.ca/media/OSFGASMENUMAR10.pdf .

You are welcome to come to both the movie and the talkback social time or just attend one or the other.

The Waterfront Public Transit Station is convenient to both the Vancouver Convention Centre and The Old Spaghetti Factory and there are plenty of nearby downtown parking lots.  One suggestion is to park at the Easy Park lot located at 160 Water Street which is close to the restaurant.  The rates are $2.00 per half hour with a Day Maximum of $7.00 (on Saturdays) – further info can be found here http://www.easypark.ca/easypark-lots/locations-and-rates/Gastown-Parking-Vancouver-Lot-31.aspx?lang=-123.1072&lat=49.284.

At the heart of the northeastern Peruvian Amazon is Santa Clotilde, which has grown into the largest town along the Napo River.  Two extraordinary priest-doctors - one Canadian, one American - have given more than 20 years of their lives to the people living in the Peruvian jungle.  This film shares their struggles and triumphs of bringing health care, along with worship, to this beautiful and remote part of the world.  Vancouver based Physician Dr. Kerry Telford is briefly interviewed in the film.  She frequently travelled to Peru to assist with clinic duties until she and her 6-month old baby passed away in a BC float plane crash in 2010.
